2023 Photo Contest - Judging Criteria

• Images must meet the following standards:
  • Technical
    • Is the image properly exposed and in focus?
  • Composition
    • Is the image cropped properly? Are the elements in the image well positioned

• Winning images must feature at least one of the following elements. The more elements that are strongly reflected in the photo, the higher the ranking.
  • Light
    • Does the image feature an interesting quality of light? Are the colours (or lack of colour) attractive?
  • Behaviour
    • Does the image feature a subject or subjects engaged in interesting behaviour (even of a passive nature)?
  • Scene
    • Does the image include some of the environment around the subject to give the viewer some context?
  • Story
    • Does the image tell a compelling story or suggest that there is a story behind the photograph?
  • Emotion
    • Does the image evoke an emotional response from the viewer?
