Ken's Fave Trail

23/3/2025

Ken Bouchard walks the stone stairs he installed with fellow volunteers on the lower red trail at Hendricks Park, which is possibly his favourite trail. If one were to have such a thing.

My inner discussion about my favourite trail goes like this:
We have 9. It’s like “who is my favourite grandchild…”
I have 9 of them too.
Was it the hardest to build or hike?
Is it the one that has the most gorgeous viewpoints?
Or the most maple trees, the most fascinating rock faces?
Ok, so it's not going to be beauty as the one I like best.

Maybe the one that gives me the fastest good exercise - 30 minutes on my way into Wakefield?
Or the one trail I walk the most with my wife?
Or the one I get most pleasure from … the one I love to see children on,
skipping along, and yelling; “Beat you to #1 on the storybook trail”!
And it happens to be the trail that took some dedicated volunteers, over 18 months to build.
The one with the BIG stones where we used a heavy duty winch to move almost all of them into place.

Yes that’s it; the lower red trail with the bridge at the bottom, a couple of volunteer - built benches along the way and then onto that steep ridge with the huge pines.
That’s the lower RED trail.
And when, on your return, you get to the open fields, make a sharp left onto the BLUE trail and it brings you to our Concert hill and another bridge.
You are now back to the start.
Want to do it again?
Look to your left and you will see the RED markers. Voila!

Thanks for joining me on my favourite trail.
