Water diversion on the Community Centre trail near Mill Road

20/6/2024

Picture
In summer of 2024, the Municipality of La Pêche and Trans Canada Trail funded maintenance work to divert water and prevent erosion on the steep part of the trail just beside Mill Road.
Volunteers of Sentiers Wakefield Trails deepened the ditch, cleared the dead brush, hauled dead sections of trees out of the way, put cedar logs along the side of the trail to hold crushed stone, and dug finger-deep berms to divert the water.
Going into 2025, we will continue to monitor the ditch to see how it handles the run-off. In the works are plans to build more side-tributaries as we monitor the ditch and berms to see how it handles excess run-off in spring. What we learn on this section of the Trans Canada Trail will inform water diversion projects elsewhere on the trails.
